Currently, in-house Fortune 500 call centers are estimated to have a total cost to the company per agent per year of between $50,000-$100,000, with the average being over $65,000. This includes the agent salary ($20,000-$45,000+), benefits ($5000-$9000), hardware, software, network, and help desk support ($6000-$10,000), rent, utilities, furniture, supplies ($4000-$6000), telecommunication equipment, service and support ($4000-$6000), recruiting, training, supervision, taking in to account attrition rates between 35%-150% ($3000-$5000), other G & A, corporate overhead, interest, taxes and profit ($10,000-$25,000+). Some large corporations take the agents' wages and multiply by three to get the total cost to the company.

An offshore call center in South Africa can provide the same quality service with a total cost to the company per agent per year of $30,000-$50,000. This would include all of the above listed costs.

The compelling message to the U.S. market is that for in-house call centers having 1000 agents (approximately 500 seats) costing the company a total-cost-to-the-company of $65 million per year, could be reduced to costing the company $35 million per year. This is a $30 million cost savings per year when fully transitioned. The same proportionate savings would work for 500 agents with $15 million in savings and for 2000 agents with $60 million in savings per year. Very compelling!
